In what was considered to be a cake walk for the Chennai Super Kings, Jos Buttler erupted like a volcano and burnt to ashes, all the hopes of the men in yellow.
Batting first, Chennai managed to put on a good total. With Watson, Raina, Dhoni and Billings’ notable contributions, CSK scored a total of 176 in their quota of 20-overs. None of the Rajasthan bowlers seemed to trouble them. Raina’s inning was a stand out. He scored a 35-ball 52, hitting 6 fours and 1 six. Watson and Dhoni contributed 39 and 33 to CSK’s total. Billings played a good innings at the end, scoring 27 runs off 22 balls.
Coming in to chase the total, Rajasthan tried an all new opening pair. With the regular Jos Buttler, it was Ben Stokes who opened the innings. While no Rajasthan batsman looked good at the crease, Buttler was playing a different game altogether. Except Buttler, no other Rajasthan batsman managed to reach a score of 30. Buttler, on the other hand, was playing in a league of his own.
Chasing 176, Buttler played a brilliant match-winning innings of 95 off just 60 balls. He smashed 11 fours and 2 sixes and stayed in there till the end of the match. He made sure Rajasthan won the game by 4 wickets.
His innings was one of the best innings in this year’s IPL. This man has been in prime form since last 4 matches. Rajasthan’s decision of opening the innings with Buttler is doing wonders for them.
But haven’t they been a bit too late to use their best weapon in the form of Buttler? I feel they have been.
