Lullaby

I rested my weary head on her lap
She moved her fingers over my tangled hair
Started humming softly into my ears
There was nothing her lullaby couldn’t repair

My heart-felt lighter as tears poured out
Her humming softened but never stopped
Suddenly, pain had numbed from the wounds old
And hope wasn’t too lost to not behold

With difficulty, I put on a smile
Everything felt quite alright for a while
My mind wasn’t fighting wars anymore
My heart had silenced its inner roar

The night was dark, winds icy cold
Now rusted, my once dreams of gold
But pain had numbed from the wounds old
And hope wasn’t too lost to not behold

Her love knew no limits, her love had no end
There was nothing her lullaby couldn’t mend
After ages of wandering on roads of hell
Finally, I found peace on the lap of a friend.
