The Final Mile

I pass the gate

That leads to the stone

Which marks the place

Where they laid your bones

The rain washed away

The tears from my face

Like the river that took

My love to this place

I stand on the bank

Staring to the unknown

The river is black

And the rain is so cold

I feel the water rise

And cry out your name

I close my eyes

And let go of my pain

The river runs deep

And the river runs wide

I’ve walked the final mile

To be by your side
