Once upon a dreadful bore
I lay in the water
like Ophelia
waiting for the rapture

an eyeless animal
pitter-pattered past me in the reed
It turned its tattered head
and said
“You don’t belong here
do you?”

ever since then I’ve felt hollow
like I’m starving for a yet unknown grief to fill me up
always look thrice before I cross the road
Repeating to myself:
I am in love with the hideous therefore I became it
I am hideous and I love it
I now fear only to lose my fear
which keeps my eyes searching
between the rubber trees
run by

the shells of the people I’ve let go of
naked, wrinkly genitals dangling to and fro,
covered in mouth shaped wounds
