The brother I lost : A poem

**The government bus fell into the Gogra canal at Balirghat area of Murshidabad district of West Bengal on January 29 morning.**

On the bank I waited
holding my breath
as they ascended the bodies one by one
Every time wishing it isn’t yours
And still wishing to find you
You were so young only 22
I shouldn’t have let you go to work today
You were happy this morning
And now you are just still
How much did you suffer, before you died?
I hope you died without struggle
I know how much you feared drowning.
How do I forgive god for killing you the only way that scared you the most?
Yet another body ascended and the family howled in pain
It isn’t yours but still the tears fall for all the people who lost their loved ones.
It’s evening, people have gone by the time
I still waited…
I recognized you from the blue of your shirt
The shirt that I ironed this morning
Now drenched and your lifeless body in it didn’t look anything like you
Except for the shirt, nothing resembles you
I cried for the small brother
So young, a whole life that you left behind
How your loss would be a gaping whole in our lives
So loved, so much cared, who would have thought in blink of an eye everything changes.
