The India U-19 boys, under the mentorship of Rahul Dravid, in the most recent clash with arch rivals Pakistan in the semi-finals of the U-19 World cup ran over the opposition, outplaying them in every department.
To start the proceedings, having won the toss, the Indian captain, Prithvi Shaw chose to bat first. Coming into bat, Prithvi and Manjot gave India a good start and laid the foundation of a good innings. Prithvi scored 41 before running himself out, and Manjot scored a good 47 before perishing. Then it was all about one man. Shubham Gill! He came into bat in the 16th over and from there, went on to bat for the entire 50 overs scoring a glorious 102 and putting India in a winning position. India wrapped up their innings at 272-9, thus giving Pakistan a target of 273 to win.
Pakistan just couldn’t get into the game at any stage. Right from the word go, the Indian bowlers were all over the Pakistani batsmen. Ishan Porel bowled at his deadly best and stuck for the first time in the 4th over itself. From there, it was no looking back. He ended the match with great figures of 6 overs, 2 maidens, 17 runs for 4 wickets. Shivam and Nagarkoti too supported him really well. They bowled quite economically and gave no freedom to batsmen at any stage. It was just a matter of 30 overs before India cruised to a brutal victory of 203 runs, wrapping up the Pak XI with just 69 runs on the board.
This game disappointed many fans as it didn’t went down to the wire. It was a one-sided affair and lacked the intensity that India-Pakistan games are expected to carry.
